Featured Fiber Optic Training Instructor for the Month: Prescy Acero

Students who previously took fiber optic training courses with SubNet Services will certainly remember our first featured instructor.

Prescila Iban Acero, 38, is a bachelor’s degree holder in Electronics and Communications Engineering. Otherwise known as Prescy, she has been teaching fiber optics training courses at SubNet Services for three years now. Let’s see what she has to say about being a fiber optic training instructor.

Fiber Optic Training is Challenging

Prescy started teaching at SubNet Services in April 2014 as a Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) instructor. When asked how her first teaching had been, she recalled:

“Challenging because that was my first time to teach the course. I needed to learn more about the course so that I could deliver it effectively with the students. Another challenge was the students I was teaching were adult people. Most of them were already in the field and knew the topics.”

Despite these challenges though, Prescy’s passion for teaching keeps her going. She knows that teaching is a continuous learning; thus, she goes out of her way to improve herself in what she does.

As an instructor, I know that I should do better than my previous classes. I should continuously improve myself and learn more. I should not stop learning and enhancing my skills. Also, I make sure that I improve myself in dealing more with others to effectively deliver the course.”

Fiber Optic Training is Fulfilling

Prior to teaching at SubNet Services, Prescy was a previous Information Technology (IT) instructor. Hence, she knows the ins and outs of being an instructor, which is very evident in how she handles her students.

“Every student is unique in terms of understanding. Some can easily understand because they are already working in the field. However, some have totally no knowledge about the course. So I always tell them the objective of the course they enrolled in, whether they are an expert or just starting.”

And even before she conducts the training, Prescy really prepares and ensures that everything will run smoothly.

I make it a point that everything is ready – the materials, the worksheets, and the equipment. I make a checklist of the things that I might need for the upcoming training. And, I always update my materials and presentations from time to time.”

To say that she is hands-on is already an understatement.

“Before the training, I usually monitor the number of attendees to prepare the number of materials, the tools, and the documents that I might be needing including their food… After the training, all the records of the students, their assessments, results of the exams, and evaluations should have been recorded. The materials, the tools, and the equipment should have been arranged and checked as well.”

Fiber Optic Training is Rewarding

Prescy indeed finds self-fulfillment in teaching. No wonder she generously shares her knowledge and her time to her students. In return, her students had their own success story to tell after their stint with SubNet Services.

Some of my students are now working in the biggest telecommunications companies, submarine cable companies, fiber optics cable manufacturing, leading community antenna television (CATV) companies, and a lot more here and around the world.”

When asked how future SubNet trainees should prepare for the industry or for the courses, she said:

Fiber optic trainings offered by SubNet Services are internationally recognized. These are very in demand and high paying jobs right now. If they are looking for a course to enhance their knowledge and skills or to shift to a new career, these are the courses for them.”

She further said that since the fiber optic industry is growing and developing, there are a lot of rewarding opportunities in the field waiting for them.

“I am looking forward to see my students in telecommunications, oil and gas, submarine cabling, CATV, power utilities, aircraft and automobile industry, structured cabling, closed-circuit television (CCTV), building securities, and a lot more.”

At present, Prescy handles all fiber optic training courses at SubNet Services:
