For this week’s featured fiber optics training course, we will be talking more about one of our new courses – Certified Fiber Optic Network Design – CFOS/D .

CFOS/D Course Overview

CFOS/D is a three-day training that explores the facets of designing fiber optic networks – from choosing components, proposed routing, testing, and documenting to creating a plan and managing installation. Subnet Services’ mission is to provide our students with the process of fiber optic design and its implementation through this training.

Prerequisite

Location

The CFOS/D course is conducted at Subnet Services’ technical training center in Manila, Philippines, OR our team of technical training instructors will come to you and deliver the training at your preferred location (the latter is for interested companies only with required number of students).

Duration

Three (3) days including Fiber Optic Association (FOA) certification examination

Day 1

  • Introduction to fiber optic design
  • Overview of fiber optic applications and installations for both outside plant and premises
  • Planning a fiber optic network

Day 2

  • Components selections
  • Testing and documentation
  • Project specification and other documentation

  • Project design estimation

  • Hands-on session and case studies

    • Metropolitan telecom network
    • Long distance telecom network
    • Corporate LAN backbone
    • Campus LAN backbone

    • CCTV surveillance link
    • Metropolitan government network
    • Passive Optical LAN (POL)
    • FTTH Multi-Dwelling Units (MDU)
  • Competency assessment, conclusion, and FOA certification exam and evaluation

CFOS/D Course Competencies

Students will prove their competence in the following:

  • What is involved in designing a fiber optic network
  • How to choose components appropriate for communications systems
  • How the proposed routing of the cable plant affects component choice and installation
  • Using loss budgets to ensure the communications systems will work over the fiber optic proposed cable plant
  • How to determine what should be tested and documented
  • What paperwork and documentation will be needed for the project
  • How to create a plan to install the project
  • How to manage the installation

CFOS/D Course Certification

Subnet certification will be released after the completion of the course. A FOA certification is immediately given once exam is passed. Note: Starting January 1, 2019, all FOA certifications issued or renewed will be for a period of three years.
