If you think that a Fiber Optic Association (FOA) certification is just a piece of paper, think again. Hector Guatlo, Jr., former Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) student at SubNet Services, actually considers it the door to a better future.

It’s helpful in terms of salary because I am now certified and licensed. I am now more confident to work in the fiber optics industry because of it.

But before he reached his current status, Hector started from scratch in the industry. In fact, he had long been working in fiber optics prior to his SubNet training in December 2015.

I worked in fiber optic instrumentation. I did calibration and repaired fiber optic equipment before I underwent training.

Fast forward to the present time, he already has a total of five years work experience in fiber optics under his belt. Thanks to his FOA certification (which he earned right after his SubNet training), he just keeps on stepping up his career. A proof that a FOA certification could indeed make a huge difference even if you already have years of work experience.

I am the head technician right now, sometimes inspector and team leader.

When finally asked how he views the industry in general, Hector positively concluded…
