Subnet Services ROV Training Philosophy (According to Featured ROV Training Instructor for the Month)

This June, SubNet Services features one of its remotely operated vehicle (ROV) training instructors, Dan Lester Descaliar Ceremonia.

Lester, 30, is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering. He currently conducts two ROV training courses: ROV Flying Course and ROV Electronics Course. But prior to working at SubNet in July 2015, he was already a technical training instructor. It is no surprise then that students’ needs always come first for him.

In this feature, let’s get to know more about him and his ROV training philosophy that epitomizes SubNet Services’.

Students First

SubNet Services always prioritizes its students. Hence, all SubNet trainings (particularly ROV) are more rewarding than those of other training providers. Even SubNet instructors (particularly Lester) share the same philosophy – students first.

I adjust my teaching style according to what is suitable to every student. My strategy is to know first the students’ profiles especially their field of work, educational background, nationality, religion, etc. I make sure that I always have a flexible lesson plan for all my students.

Training Entails Teamwork

As a company, SubNet Services ensures that there is harmonious relationship between the management, the employees, and the clients. Therefore, its entire training team commits to provide the best training experience for all its students. For his part, Lester also teaches the value of teamwork in every training he conducts.

Every student has their own culture and attitude, and part of an ROV training course is to have a good teamwork. That is why we teach them to establish a good working relationship and respect with each other.

Sharing is Learning

One commendable character trait of Lester as an instructor is his generosity. In fact, he decided to teach ROV not only for his own sake, but because he always wants to share his knowledge with his students.

I will search for current events related to the course or the subjects I teach for additional information that can be shared with the students.

Hands-On Teaching is Hands-On Learning

Because SubNet believes in hands-on teaching and learning, Lester is definitely hands-on in every aspect of the training. In that way, he can better relate to his students and assess their skills and abilities more efficiently.

[To prepare for an upcoming training], I will know how many students will take the course, what courses they will take, their personal information, etc. I make sure I can accommodate the number of students attending the course that the materials needed for training are available, all training equipment are in good condition, and tools for teaching such as hand-outs and PowerPoint presentations are updated.

Communication and Collaboration Go Hand in Hand

In every ROV training, both communication and collaboration are a must. Thus, Lester reaches out to his students not only during hands-on activities, but even after the training session.

[I involve myself with the students by] communicating, collaborating, and decision-making with them.

Furthermore, Lester believes constant communication and collaboration should be maintained between his co-instructors and other team members as well. A key to delivering world-class trainings, indeed.

All is Well

When asked how being an ROV training instructor feels like, Lester summed it up in three words: “All is well”. In fact, these three words perfectly describe not only SubNet Services, but the ROV industry in general. Despite the downturn that the industry has experienced since 2014, “it is now slowly picking up”, according to Lester. Experts have also expressed the exact same optimism for this year’s ROV industry outlook.

Nevertheless, Lester still hopes that more students will invest in ROV trainings given the gradual upturn of the industry. Because for him, the students’ success is the best reward any instructor can ever have.

I received a message from a former student. He is now an ROV Pilot Technician I, and he is thankful for the experience he gained during his ROV training at SubNet.
